Co-organised by the ILEA International Leading Education Alliance and the Kampung Senang Charity and Education Foundation, Eastern Living Arts Experience will be take place from 27 February to 1 March 2026 at the Grand Hyatt Singapore.
Centred on the theme of “Eastern Cultural Arts and the Wisdom of Living,” the event will feature an opening ceremony, a welcome gala dinner, masterclass sessions, and an Eastern cultural arts exhibition. Together, these programmes will present a cultural celebration that bridges tradition and contemporary expression, with the aim of deepening artistic dialogue and cultural exchange between Singapore and the broader Eastern world.
This event is guided by the spirit of “Turning Problems into Masterpieces,” exploring how Eastern culture serves as a transformative force in contemporary life.
A process of dialogue, tension, adaptation, and mutual renewal - the evolution of Eastern art itself is a living testament to the dynamic interplay between tradition and modernity. When tradition becomes integrated in the modern era, it did not dissolve. Instead, it has reshaped itself over time while enduring growing pains and transformation, and rising anew, like a phoenix reborn.
In the trajectory of painting, we can clearly trace this arc of transformation. Influenced by both Eastern and Western artistic systems, Eastern painting has continually absorbed, integrated, and reimagined new elements, ultimately forming a distinctive contemporary language of expression.
This model of “coexistence between tradition and modernity” is not merely an art historical phenomenon. It reflects, more profoundly, the wisdom of Eastern culture embodied in a new era.
Wisdom is not abstract. It reveals itself gradually in the smallest details of everyday life. Through the process of refining, shaping, and sculpting, beauty emerges when we face imperfection with clarity and creativity.
This is not merely an exhibition of art. It is an invitation to a way of living.
Allow wisdom to enter through the many gateways of daily life.
Lead problems, through continuous transformation, towards their completion.
“Symbiosis” is a concept gaining increasing attention in today’s world. In truth, symbiosis has always existed in nature.
Within the natural world, between the strong and the vulnerable, amongst contrasting forces and differing elements, interdependence often develop through tension and opposition. In extreme environments, life survives and flourishes through cooperation and complementarity.
Eastern culture has long expressed this wisdom through the idea of “mutual support in adversity”, a recognition that in times of difficulty, we sustain one another and rely on shared resilience. This spirit extends beyond the relationship between humanity and nature, reaching deeply into the bonds between people. When tradition encounters modernity, and when art enters contemporary life, what emerges is a new form of symbiosis.
We do not see tradition and modernity as bound to a single path of integration. Rather, they unfold through multiple possibilities. Whether through innovation in artistic form or through the dynamic interaction between technology and culture, new models of symbiosis continue to arise.
This event is an exploration and a living practice of those possibilities.
The Opening Ceremony and welcoming Gala Dinner on 27 February will gather esteemed guests from the political, education, and business communities. Together, they will witness the inauguration of this grand celebration of Eastern cultural arts, injecting fresh momentum into cultural exchange in the region.
Held from 28 February to 1 March, the Eastern Cultural Master Academy will present a curated programme spanning Zen arts, incense appreciation, tea ceremony, floral artistry, spatial organisation, and painting. Each discipline will be personally taught by lineage heads and cultural inheritors, offering a systematic exploration of both the spirit and the lived practice of Eastern living arts.
More than a demonstration of refined techniques, the Academy is an immersive inquiry into how life itself may be reshaped through aesthetics and wisdom. Through thoughtfully designed sessions, participants will experience the order, rhythm, and quiet spiritual force embodied within Eastern artistic traditions.
Held concurrently, the Eastern Cultural Art Exhibition will feature works by dozens of renowned Eastern calligraphers and painters. The exhibition reveals the enduring depth and evolving language of Eastern artistic heritage, through the expressive vitality of brush and ink, capturing both timeless spirit and contemporary resonance.
ILEA remains devoted to fostering cross-cultural education and meaningful international exchange. Through the Eastern Living Arts Experience, we honour the legacy of Eastern traditions while reawakening their living wisdom for our global age.
We respectfully extend our invitation to distinguished guests and members of the public to convene at the Grand Hyatt Singapore, to welcome new beginnings, to ascend toward fresh possibilities in the Year of the Horse, and to partake in the enduring brilliance and celebratory spirit of Eastern civilisation.
