Singapore, 6 June 2026 — More than 1,100 participants from across Singapore came together on World Environment Day for the EcoHarmony Community Walk and Charity Fair, demonstrating how environmental stewardship, healthy living and intergenerational care can come together in one meaningful community event.

The event, organised by Kampung Senang Charity and Education Foundation with the International Leading Education Alliance (ILEA) as co-organiser, formed part of the Intergeneration Love and Being Loved initiative, bringing together seniors, youths, families, volunteers and pet owners in a celebration of compassion, wellness and environmental responsibility.

The event was officially flagged off by Mr Xie Yao Quan, Member of Parliament and Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Singapore, who joined participants in supporting a community movement centred on care for people and the planet.

Participants completed a scenic 1.7-kilometre EcoHarmony Walk around Jurong Lake Gardens while exploring educational stations featuring herbs and medicinal plants, learning how nature has long played an important role in supporting health and wellbeing. The walk concluded with a lively charity fair offering wellness-themed activities for people of all ages.

The morning began with an energetic mass warm-up led by Shirley Cheah, an Expert Committee Member of the International Leading Education Alliance (ILEA) and Trainer for the Healthy Lifestyle Coach Certification (HLCC) programme. As one of Singapore’s leading master trainers for senior fitness instructors, she led a dynamic warm-up session that prepared participants for the walk while highlighting the importance of regular physical activity in promoting healthy ageing.

A defining feature of the event was the participation of pioneer generation seniors from communities across Singapore. They were accompanied throughout the walk by volunteers from the Healthy Lifestyle Coach Certification (HLCC) programme, who provided companionship, shared healthy lifestyle knowledge, and offered practical support.

The volunteers were not simply helping on the day. In preparation for the event, they completed specialised training covering topics including wheelchair assistance, outdoor heat stress management, and effective approaches to communicating with older adults. The experience allowed volunteers to translate classroom learning into meaningful service, while building confidence and empathy in supporting Singapore’s ageing population.

Reflecting on the significance of the event, Mdm Joyce Lye, President of International Leading Education Alliance (ILEA), said: “At ILEA, we believe education is a catalyst for positive change—empowering people with knowledge, enriching lives, and inspiring action that benefits communities. The EcoHarmony Community Walk demonstrates how knowledge can be transformed into action, action into service, and service into healthier, more resilient communities. Every volunteer, every senior and every family who participated today has become part of a movement that advances health, learning and compassion — one person, one family and one community at a time.”

The EcoHarmony Community Walk was also a pet-friendly event, welcoming families and their animal companions to enjoy the outdoors together. The inclusive atmosphere reflected the organisers’ vision of building healthier, happier and more connected communities.

Held on World Environment Day, the event carried an additional message that caring for personal wellbeing and caring for the environment are closely connected. Participants were encouraged to contribute, through small but meaningful actions, towards a cleaner, greener and more sustainable future.

As part of ILEA’s growing movement to cultivate healthy lifestyle ambassador volunteers, the event demonstrated that community service extends beyond helping individuals. Every act of giving, every step taken along the tree-lined paths, and every connection forged contributes to stronger communities, protecting our shared environment, and fostering greater peace for our one Earth home.

The EcoHarmony Community Walk and Charity Fair reflects ILEA’s continuing commitment to nurturing healthy lifestyles, intergenerational solidarity, volunteerism and environmental responsibility. Together with its partners, ILEA believes that lasting change begins with ordinary people choosing to care — for one another, for their communities and for the world they share.

Advancing the Sustainable Development Goals Through Community Action

Held on World Environment Day, this event demonstrated how community action can create lasting impact for both people and the planet. As co-organiser, the International Leading Education Alliance (ILEA) continues to advance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being and SDG 4: Quality Education.

The event promoted SDG 3 by encouraging active living through the 1.7-kilometre community walk, fostering healthy ageing, strengthening social connections across generations, and inspiring participants to embrace preventive health and wellness. Through meaningful interactions between volunteers and seniors, the event also highlighted the importance of emotional wellbeing, community care and healthy, age-friendly living.

The event also exemplified SDG 4 by transforming learning into action. Prior to the event, volunteers from the Healthy Lifestyle Coach Certification (HLCC) programme underwent practical training in senior care, wheelchair assistance and outdoor heat stress management. During the event, they applied these skills while accompanying pioneer generation seniors throughout the walk, gaining valuable real-world experience in compassionate caregiving. Participants also learned about herbs and medicinal plants, deepening their understanding of how nature contributes to health and wellbeing.

Celebrated on World Environment Day, the event further encouraged environmental stewardship by reminding participants that caring for our planet and caring for one another are inseparable. Every step taken during the EcoHarmony Walk symbolised a shared commitment to healthier people, stronger communities and a more sustainable future.

At ILEA, we believe that education is meaningful only when it creates positive change. We transform knowledge into action, action into service, and service into healthier, more resilient communities. Through this approach, the EcoHarmony Community Walk and Charity Fair demonstrates how local communities can contribute meaningfully to advancing SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) and SDG 4 (Quality Education) - one person, one family and one community at a time.

About the Intergeneration Love and Being Loved Initiative

The EcoHarmony Community Walk and Charity Fair is one of a series of “Intergeneration Love and Being Loved” initiatives led by ILEA and its partners. Through community engagement, healthy lifestyle education, volunteerism and international collaboration, the initiative seeks to build stronger communities where every generation is empowered to learn, serve and thrive together.

As ILEA continues to expand its network of partners locally and internationally, the Intergeneration Love and Being Loved initiative will continue to empower individuals to learn, serve and lead — building healthier communities and advancing the Sustainable Development Goals through education, volunteerism and collective action.
